fruit shake

Though Healthy Fruit Shake Recipes may appeal to those who are involved in sports or weight training, drinking at least one Fruit Shake a day can be beneficial to everyone, Adults and Children. And the best part is you can alter the shake to fit your taste, adding to it fruits, supplements, and vitamins targeted to your needs.

The Basics

First off, you need lets start with base. Personally I use low sugar Soy Milk. While Soy Milk does contain fat, it also contains 9 grams of protein, 0 cholesterol, carbs for energy, calcium for your teeth and bones, fiber, and a long list of vitamins and minerals. Just drinking one soy milk a day is a good idea. But when you include this milk as a part of your Healthy Fruit Shake Recipe, you are turning it into a super food. I generally use soy milk that comes in juice box type packaging of 250 cm3. Its easier this way, but soy milk comes in larger milk cartons which overall is less trash and better for the environment, so probably a better way to go.

What to Add:

When talking about the ingredients to add to your fruit shakes, to each their own really. What do you want, and what do you need??

Sometimes I don’t add any fruit, but if I have it available, I like to add Strawberries and/or Bananas. I don’t really like Bananas, but they are great for the potassium and when mixed with other fruit you cant really taste them.

Now the supplements. If you don’t know what you want, or need, CONSULT A PHYSICIAN. Then you can either take a look for supplements and vitamin companies or you can go to your local GNC.

In my Healthy Fruit Shakes, I usually add Protein and Creatine, but there are a long list of other items you can add such as oates, fish oil, L-carnitine, ground flax seed, vegetables, fruit juices, etc….But its quick and easy to throw these items in a blender, mix them together and drink it down. And when you mix them right, they taste great. One health fruit shake a day is a great way for You and Your children to get the proper mix of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients every day.

Cook Healthier Food; Cook Super Food

Add to GoogleAdd to My AOL

based on an article written by Christopher R. Mohr, PH.D., R.D.

You may have a list of foods you like to cook and are not really interested in learning new recipes, or perhaps you are looking for a healthier recipes to add to you routine. Well, either way, this article will help turn otherwise standard meals into healthier Super Foods.

We have all heard of dietary supplements, but generally they are considered to be “Athletes Only” and even then often times only used in a shake form, soley to gulp down the supplement. But as the name states, a Dietary Supplement is used to supplement nutrients that are lacking in your diet. So why not add them to your food ?

Though there is a large variety of herbs and spices that each offer a wide variety of benefits, as well as a list of powder and vitamin supplements, we will look at some easy to use examples that are sure help. (Feel free to add your suggestions to our comments section).

Fish Oil

I would be the first to overlook fish oil, but after living in Thailand for 4 years, and unknowingly eating fish sauce/oils for just as long, trust me, give this one a shot. Fish contains high levels of nutrition that will benefit everyone, and by adding either a fish oil (which is also available in pill form) or a fish sauce (commonly used in Thai Cusine in place of salt) to the food you cook, you will receive the benfits of these including lowering your risk of heart disease, boost fat loss, and add calcium to your diet. While in large amounts, the oil and sauce can be fishy, higher quality oils contain no real fishy taste and the sauces help to accentuate the flavor of what you are cooking, making your food tastier and healthier.

Protein Powder

Commonly used by weight lifters, and drank in a shake, protein powder is an excellent source of of no fat, high quality, protein which is an essential part of your diet; especially for those who are trying to add muscle and/or lose weight. As protein comes in a powder, it is easy to add to the food you cook. Try mixing in a scoop of protein to your batter next time you are making pancakes or pudding. This will make classic foods healthier.

Ground Flaxseed

Flaxseed is a virtual multivitamin, acting as a suprisingly good source of healthy fat, along with protein, fiber, and loads of other disease fighting nutrients. You can find Ground Flaxseed in oil form makeing is a healthier alternative to hyfrogenated oil and butter in recipes. With that being said, you can use the flaxseed in a large variety of recipes (for instance pancakes that you have added the protein powder to).

These are only three examples, and with in each a couple ways to use each to help you cook healthier food. But like I said, with the large variety of oils, herbs(including herbal teas), spices, vegtables, and healthier ingredients available, the options are limitless. See which works best for you, and please leave your comments of what food you have cooked and tasted good (or terrbible)….

Cause of my Sensitive Teeth

Add to GoogleAdd to My AOL

After a month or two of only being able to eat on one side of my mouth, and not able to drink cold, or even cool water because my teeth on the left side of my mouth were so sensitive, I finally made it to the dentist. I assumed the cause of my sensitive teeth was a cavity and I could get it filled and there would be no problem. To my surprise I was wrong.

The cause of the sensitive teeth was not coming from a problem with the teeth necessarily, but was actually a problem with my gums; the beginnings of gingivitis. I was surprised to hear this because I felt I take care of my teeth good enough to prevent this, but as it turns out I was brushing my teeth wrong. When brushing my molars in the back, I would brush too fast, and was not properly cleaning in between my teeth, which was allowing my gums to become infected; the cause of my sensitive teeth.

This came as a shock to me. I am 30 years old, and have been to the dentist every 6 months for most of my life, and I am just now learning this. The dentist said for this reason, an electronic toothbrush works best, but if I could maintain slower circular movements with a regular tooth brush, that would be fine.

Had this problem been worse, there are some uncomfortable steps the dentist can take to clean your teeth and begin to reverse the process, but fortunately since my
sensitive teeth
were still relatively new, as a remedy I could just start brushing my teeth slowly and softly and the problem would begin to reverse itself, which after about 1 month, my teeth are no longer sensitive.

lemongrass tea

While not from the traditional Camellia sinensis Tea Plant, Herbal Blends have been making their way known on the tea market. Containing a variety of unique health benefits, Herbal teas can have a light and refreshing taste with no caffeine. Though Chamomile is perhaps the most well known herbal blend, others such as Lemongrass are quickly gaining popularity.

Grown in Thailand, Lemongrass is a highly aromatic herbal tea with a toasted lemon flavor used to keep you body fresh and clean. While cleansing your body of toxins, a lively taste is a welcome beverage throughout the day. Along with support for sagging skin, Lemongrass Tea has also been known to reduce mental fatigue and stress.

Over the past few years, Sabaidi Tea Co., Ltd. has been building its names as one of the most popular Lemongrass Teas in Thailand’s capital city Bangkok, selling in some of the city’s favorite Shopping locations, Siam Paragon, Central World, Erawan Tea Room, and a list of others. Although a high quality Lemongrass is available in either tea bags or loose tea in these locations, you do not have to go all the way to Thailand to purchase it.

With a variety of benefits to skin and body, Sabaidi’s Lemongrass Tea is making its way throughout the US and other countries in specialty food markets, Whole Foods Markets, Health Food Stores and other similar locations. Asking stores near you is the best way to have them carry this great tasting herbal beverage. If the stores do not yet carry it, please visit the Sabaidi Web Site and you can purchase Lemongrass tea as well as a selecting of other standard tea and herbal tea blends.

Stop Making Excuses

no excuses

To many times in our lives, We become our own worst enemy. Instead of pushing ourselves beyond the norm, or taking that extra step, we find it very easy to make an excuse. It is easy to make excuses, thats why we do it. Its hard to push ourselves. Many times it hurts to take that extra step. But often times it is that temporarily painful extra step that gets you a step ahead (or at least keeps you even with the other people who are also taking that step).

Its your life, Where do you want to take it ??

At Sabaidi Health, we focus on what it means to live a Healthly LIfestyle. Making excuses fits in perfectly. It is extremely difficult to live a healthy lifestyle when we always have an excuse for snacking, for not excercising, eating greasy fast foods, and the list goes on….

While searching the web for weight training tips, I cam accross a good article about not making excuses at stronglifts.com called Building Inner Strength: a Lesson from Tyler Durden . Fans of the movie Fight Club will recognize the name Tyler Durden…

Reusing Your Tea Bags

Add to GoogleAdd to My AOL

At Sabaidi Health, while we are always in the process of looking for new (and hopefully easy) additions to a healthy lifestyle this article is about where we started, Tea. And not only drinking tea, but reusing your tea bags.

Reusing tea bags is an easy way to greatly add to your general health. 3-5 cups of tea a day will allow you to properly hydrate your body which in itself has a list of benefits including ridding your body of toxins, helping your immune system, aiding digestion, and helping to prevent constipation.

In addition to hydrating your body, reusing your tea bags will allow you to fully maximize from the health benefits each tea provides. While Green Tea is most popular for its anti oxidants and weight loss properties, Black tea and Herbal Teas are also useful additions to a healthy lifestyle. Black Tea provides moderate amounts of caffeine which has been shown to help burn calories, as well as make you more productive. Black tea also has benefits to heart and blood. Herbal teas have different benefits depending on the teas, for instance lemongrass is good for removing body toxins. You can look at Sabaidi Tea’s website for a list of the Health Benefits.

Alright, so reusing tea bags is good for my health, but it doesn’t sound too clean, can you even do that, and if so, how would I even go about reusing a tea bag ?

Well, good questions and we have good answers. Sabaidi’s Tea bags contain loose tea and/or large cut herbs, minimizing oxidation, increasing the health benefits provided (as compared to standard tea bags with tea dust inside them), and allowing them to be reused. You can get about 3-5 cups of tea per tea bag (throughout a day), receiving the same taste with each cup. Actually, the second and third cups are often times better than the first. All you have to do is soak your tea bag for about 2 minutes for the first cup, bobbing it in and out of the water. Then take the tea bag out and hang it on your Sabaidi Tea Stand. For each additional cup, steep the tea bag for increasing increments until you receive a desired taste.

To make this practice easier, Sabaidi has designed the Sabaidi Tea Stand. This is used as a clean and convenient location to keep your tea bag in between uses. After a week of drinking 3-5 cups of tea per day, you will start to feel the difference. Give it a shot, and let us know what you think.

How can I live a Healthy Lifestyle ?

Add to GoogleAdd to My AOL

With the increase in cancer rates and obesity and ever growing knowledge of trans fats, saturated fats, carcinogens, whole foods, organic, and a list of other buzz words, many people are now asking themselves How can I live a Healthy Lifestyle ?

While each person may have their own definition, a healthy lifestyle should lie in Balance. Balance in all aspects of life, food, hobbies, business, family, education, and everywhere else.

To help those who are genuinely looking to make changes in their life, for themselves and family, Sabaidi Health has put together a list of steps to show how you can begin a journey down a path that leads to a healthy lifestyle.

Step 1: Headlines

Sit down, by yourself, with a friend, spouse, relative, or whomever you plan on sharing this path with, and honestly look at your life. Make a list of different Headlines that fill your life; i.e. Eating, Exercise, Work, Family, Finance, etc. Some headlines may not be there, but you would like them to, such as Education, Travel.

Step 2: Step 1

A confusing heading perhaps, but first things first, and that is a first step. You can not begin somewhere you’re not, so you have to first figure out where you are starting from. With each of your headlines, figure our where you are; for instance:

Family:  Spend a couple hours with wife and kids when I get home from work.  We ussually watch TV.  Take kids to soccer games on the weekend.

Eating: coffee for breakfast, fast food 3 times a week, microwaved food 2 times a week, lot of fruit, home cooked meal on weekends, too many potato chips

Step 3: Analyze

Look at your list. Look at your headlines and descriptions and see where you are. Think about where you want to be, and figure out how to get there. For the example above,

Changes:

Family: I would like to spend more “Quality Time” with my family.  Maybe play a board game or play outdoor game like Wiffle Ball or Badminton with them.  Maybe on the weekends, or when I get home instead of TV.

Eating:Eat something for breakfast (will help to boost metabolism, and give me more energy)
Try to cut down on Fast food to once a week, or switch to a healthier fast food options (Subway)
Fruit – GOOD
Try to eat more Home Cooked meals (don’t really have the time, but maybe I can cook more than I need on the weekends and microwave the left overs during the week)

Step 4: Just Do It

More times than not, simply not doing things is our biggest enemy. Excuses are easy to find. Its not hard to live a healthy lifestyle, you just have to do it. Be serious about it, for yourself, and your family. Each change you make in your life will benefit You as a person; your Health and General Well Being.

As I said before, its about Balance. Start slow, but start. Its not a matter of cutting out all snack foods, running marathons, and needing to be a millionaire, its about making adjustments in your life to increase your overall well being.
